What happened?

pnotrn:

What happened to getting to know someone? When you could sit on the phone with someone for hours, talking about anything and everything. From sundown, only to end when you realize the sun is coming back up. Wanting to know every last detail. Where you grew up, what vegetables you hate, when you had your first kiss. Tell me what’s your favourite colour.

What happened to eagerness? When the first thing you do in the morning is send a text to say have a good day. Seeing something in a store and having to buy it, just because it reminded you of a past conversation. Reminders that you can’t wait for the next time you see each other, because they’re who you think about all day long. Calling to say hi on your break. In less than twenty words, you made my whole damn day.

What happened to simplicity? When all you needed to know was in one look. One touch. One kiss. When all you had to do was say “I like you. I want to get to know you better”. No mixed signals. No head games. I want to hold your hand.

What happened to effort? When you thought of ways to make the other smile. To make them laugh. To not make them cry. To be there for them when they had a problem. Knowing when to give advice, and when to just sit and listen. Bringing them soup when they’re not feeling well, knowing full well that you’re not getting something in return. Putting your fears aside and just going for it. And this is the day I make you mine.

What happened to chivalry? What happened to holding doors and walking a girl home? What happened to compliments? What happened to “you’re beautiful”, and not “you look hot”? What happened to real hugs that lingered? What happened to butterflies? What happened to romance?

What happend to make everything so complicated? Because really, it doesn’t have to be.
